South Africa is often said to be very dangerous, with high crime rates and frequent attacks. However, I believe that today, it doesn’t really matter where you are – whether in the USA, Russia, or Australia. If you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time, things can go badly. But in general, one thing remains true: to ensure safety, it’s important to avoid places that feel deserted or unsettled. Ignore suspicious individuals, keep your bags close, drive in locked cars, don’t leave anything on the seats, and park in areas with people around.
Just like in any other country, it's important to be cautious and informed in South Africa, but there’s no need to be afraid. In Cape Town, we often move around even late at night, but we know where it's safe.
If you follow basic safety precautions, you can enjoy the beauty of South Africa – from nature reserves to cultural and historical sites – with peace of mind.
South Africa is a fascinating country, rich in natural beauty, history, and hospitable people. With a little caution, your trip will be not only safe but also unforgettable.
